Standard quilt sizes
Most patterns are written for one of these finished sizes. Bed quilts depend on the mattress and how far the quilt should hang over the sides (the drop), so measure your bed if the quilt has to fit exactly.
| Size | Typical finished quilt | Common use |
|---|---|---|
| Crib | 36 × 52 in (91 × 132 cm) | Baby crib or play mat |
| Throw | 60 × 70 in (152 × 178 cm) | Sofa or lap |
| Twin | 70 × 90 in (178 × 229 cm) | Twin bed with a short drop |
| Full | 84 × 90 in (213 × 229 cm) | Full or double bed |
| Queen | 90 × 108 in (229 × 274 cm) | Queen bed |
| King | 108 × 108 in (274 × 274 cm) | King bed |
Which calculator do you need?
Start with the quilt size calculator if you are planning blocks and borders. Once you know the finished size, the backing and binding calculators tell you how much fabric to buy for the back and the edges, and the half-square triangle calculator gives the cutting size for HST units.
